Hi just looking for some advice so I recently had a newborn the father left me about 2 and a half months before bub was born.
I was wanting to put both last names on birth certicate as I feel I deserve my son to have my last name as I did all the work and didnt hear from father now the father is refusing me to give my last name on birth certicate even though we both agree on it a few weeks ago now he has changed his mind.so I can't receive my maternity pay until birth certicate is done what can I do

There is no enforceable right for a parent to have a child bear their surname.
You are not required to use the father's surname at all, unless you want to.
In short and simple - Dad here has no right to insist on his surname being used at all.
Just as you have no duty to use it against your will.

There's a bit of info from BDM Tasmania here.
It includes a phone number to ring when Dad won't co-operate with the Registration process.

Know this - Surname or no surname - he still has to pay child support.
That's not negotiable.
