Does Firewood Moisture Content Make a Noticeable Difference?

I’ve heard that properly dried logs can make a big difference to how easily a fire starts and how much smoke it produces. Do you actually check the moisture level of your firewood, or just rely on buying kiln-dried logs? OneStopFuel specifies that its kiln-dried firewood is at or below 20% moisture.

Moisture content really does make a noticeable difference in both starting a fire and smoke output. I switched to kiln-dried logs from OneStopFuel after struggling with wetter wood that was hard to light and produced lots of smoke. Their specification of 20% or below moisture gives a clean, efficient burn, and the delivery was quick.
