Hi,

2 weeks ago, when I made a contract of sale for my house, my real estate agent sent my contact number to a conveyancer and he called me. I told her to stop now, once we got approval we will contact you back, she got the details for a follow-up. We didn't sent any ID or contact or anything to start the work or even get the quotation.

After that, we spoke with our mortgage broker and they have a conveyancer and went through with them.

Now the first conveyancer, after 2 weeks, called and said "if you want to go or not with us you have to pay our bill".

What's your suggestion?

I'm not sure what state you're in, but the general rule is: if you don't get confirmation from the client of engagement to undertake work, you don't have a claim against them. That goes for pretty much any situation.
