Hi,

I’m a permanent resident under visa sc189.
My employer is an Australian IT company which has deputed me on a project overseas (I have a deployment agreement). Due to this project, I stay outside the country for 3 months at a stretch, return to Australia for 2-4 weeks and fly back. However, my family resides in Australia, I have recently purchased a house, my salary gets credited in my Australian account, I have been paying taxes and my kids go to public school.
My question is- will I be eligible to apply for citizenship? I have been told that I will not be able to meet the stay requirements (under 2yrs of stay in country) and there is no way around it. Even though I’m outside the country for work purposes, paying my taxes and have family residing in Australia.
Appreciate your help.
Thanks,
M
