Can you please advise what grounds a catholic high school has to refuse an application for enrolment based on the school having an opening available to accommodate the extra student?

If the child or parent was not willing to support the ethos of the school and uphold the values of the school then this could be grounds to refuse an application.

What was the reason they provided for refusing your child? Further, a private school, and in particular, a religious school, has greater grounds to reject students and only accept students that align with its values, as Sophea mentioned.

If you believe you have been wrongfully discriminated against, then contact the Department of Education and enquire as to what they are doing is legal. However, private catholic schools have relatively wide discretion.
