Hey Guys,

Looking for some feedback/advice on business name registration with ASIC. I have chosen a name for my new business and got my domain sorted. Check IP Aus and can see their is no trademark on the word but unfortunately the name is not available with ASIC business name search.

Is their any way around? Possibly do a "trading as". So set up a company under XYZ Pty Ltd and then "trade as" the name I have chosen. Is that possible?

Anyone done this or got some advice and pointers?

Thanks

Hi Tanveer,

Laws affecting businesses have changed in Australia in the last few years. Businesses need to register their business names and if they have an existing trading name, they need to register it as a business name. So for legal purposes, a trading name and business name is one and the same thing and needs to be registered with ASIC.
