SA Age of Consent - When to Have Legal Sexual Intercourse?

Can a 16-year-old and a 17-year-old have legal sexual intercourse?

Sorry for the dumb question, but I've been searching online for this and so far the answer has been pretty ambiguous. Can anyone please help?

My understanding of the legislation in SA is that if one of the participants is 16 it is only not an offence if the other participant is under 17. CRIMINAL LAW CONSOLIDATION ACT 1935 - SECT 49
