I became a member hoping to ask, who do I turn to if I have been cheated on by a website. The website businesses that have no shop front seem to be lawless. They take your money and don’t answer emails and there is nothing anyone can do about it. There is no law that bounds them. What does a person do under Australian Consumer Law if they had been cheated on by a website that does not have a shop front. Thank you.

Is this a hypothetical or something you have experienced? Is it an Australian business?

Whether an Australian business is a pure online player or has a physical shopfront or is a hybrid, it has obligations under Australian consumer protection laws

Thanks for the answer Hugh, I did have a bad experience with an American website, I only lost about $50 I took it on the chin, I was wondering if it ever happened again who to turn to for help.

Hi John,
The incident was one year ago, at the time I did not know who to ask for help, I came across LawAnswers.com a few days ago and I posted the question, Hugh was very kind to answer my question, sorry I forget the name of the website, thanks for your interest John… my best wishes to you and all the members.

Hi Tony,
Yes, a good reminder to always research before you click "buy". Have a great weekend! :)
