I am wondering if you could tell me, is it legal under Australian for a person to post online a text message sent to them without the consent of the sender?

Thanks in advance.

Generally if the person expressly tells them that it is confidential or the circumstances would imply that the matter or text message was confidential then yes it is a breach of a duty of confidence. It may also amount to defamation depending on what the text message said or was about or implied about the person. It depends on the circumstances and what was said.

Thanks Sophea, it was against me and quite defamatory. Apparently it's gone viral and I'm just exploring my legal standing
