I have worked for over 5 years in the same position - the last 3 years doing the same hours - 24hrs a week. I was employed as a casual, but recently, I signed an employment contract to become a permanent part-time employee with a salary (same hours/same position).

From what date do I start accruing annual leave hours under employment law? The original employment or the employment as a part-time employee? Also, if I get paid monthly, does that mean I accrue leave hours at a rate of 8 hours per monthly pay?

You accrue annual leave from the time your employment became permanent part time. Under the federal legislation you accrue it at the rate of 4 weeks (24 hrs x 4) per year. Each hour that you work you will accrue a proportion of your annual leave.
