NSW Too much lawyer firm charges

Hi,

I had a property and children settlement case with one of the law firm and in one year they were not able to achieve anything negotiating the other party.. finally i have relieved them from the services... now they gave me shock with their bill of staggering $27,000 .. and prior to signing agreement from them they didnt given me any hint of their charges... i strongly feel it is very unfair to charge this much of amount ... how can i deal with them? any guidance please.
