QLD Employee Pay for National Police Check?

Is it legal for an employer to ask an employee to pay for a National Police check and/or other work entitlement checks on commencement of employment & every 2 years or more regularly thereafter?
I don't mind my employers checking up on me, I have nothing to hide. I do mind however, being asked to pay $70 or more, every 2 years or more regularly if they so choose...
