I'm looking to buy some half scale rifle models but I'm not sure whether they would be considered imitation/replica firearms, I've looked around a bit and havent found any info on the subject of miniatures, the models are probably the size of a person's hand and the barrels are filled with metal so they couldn't possibly shoot, they also come with non functional prop ammunition. Im wondering if I would get in trouble for getting these since theyre coming from China and would just look like a firearm on an x-ray

There's loads of material on the web about it.
In particular, there's this, from Victoria Police.

That being said, Border Force regulates imports.
The laws of both State and Commonwealth are arranged so they match up and work together.
Very simply put, if Border Force don't like it,
then they have the power to seize it at the Mail Centre, on the wharf, and yes, even from your home,
independently of the police in a state.

I discourage you from making this purchase.
