My friend passed away suddenly in March this year. He lived in Melbourne but all of his family live in WA. He was single and had no assets. His mother in WA has been trying to finalise his affairs but his employer has not paid his outstanding wages/holiday pay and she doesn’t want to close his bank account until this has been paid. When she contacted the employer he said he was waiting for probate details and he would then pay all outstanding amounts. We don’t understand why he would need any probate details? Shouldn’t he just have paid all wages and entitlements into my friend’s bank account in the pay cycle after he was notified of my friend’s death?
