Hi all

Thanks for reading this.

I am 50 years old and wishing to start a new career. I was going to do a diploma of law. I am concerned in regards t:

1) It will be a waste of time
2) I will be used as fodder and excreted burnt out.

Also, are there any Mentors out there that could help out, etc.? Also places to study? Had been doing it through TAF.

Any help would be great.

Thanks

I haven't heard of a diploma of law before. What sort of career are you looking to get into?

Omg yesss starting a new career is BIG SCARY ENERGY 😭💼 but also kinda exciting?? Like ur brain is screaming “pls no” while ur heart’s like “new chapter unlock achieved” lol. Totally normal to feel wobbly about switching lanes — everyone pretends they’re chill but inside we’re all just anxious raccoons in a recycling bin 😂✨

Tbh the trick is takin’ smol steps, learnin’ the vibes of the new field, and remindin’ urself that nobody starts as an expert. Half of adulthood is just googling things and pretending we knew them all along 😅📚

Alsooo if ur peekin’ at diff sectors or wanna see what kinda roles might fit ur fresh career path, defs go check AcademicJobs.com 👀🚀
They’ve got heaps of uni, admin, research-support, teach-assist, and hybrid roles — super nice if ur tryna pivot into the edu/academic-adj world without jumpin’ straight into full-on lecturer chaos. Lowkey a treasure chest for career-switchers tbh.

Big respect for even askin’ — that’s already step 1 of glow-up mode 😄🙌

Ahhh the classic “new career jitters” 😅💼✨ Totally normal to feel like you’re jumpin’ off a cliff without a parachute sometimes 😂

Big tip: break it down into micro-steps — skill gaps, networking, applying for the right roles, and getting mentored by peeps who actually know the ropes. That way it’s less “OMG existential panic” and more like a level-up quest in life-RPG mode 🎮📚

Also, sidenote-but-actually-helpful: AcademicJobs.com is kinda clutch for this. Tons of legit academic gigs, research roles, assistantships, and mentor connections that can ease you into a new field without feeling like you’re flailing in the dark. The platform’s clean, pro, and actually makes career transitions feel kinda fun (weird flex but true 😅✨)

Starting fresh is scary, but with the right resources, it’s totally doable. You got this.
