Hi there,

I was wondering what are the procedures and avenues to be taken in order to be able to upload books that I have purchased, and put them online and charge readers a monthly subscription fee to read any book they like? Who do I need to speak to and what I need to do under Commercial Law?

Each book will have a copyright notation in the front, usually near the name of the publisher. You will need to get in touch with the person/entity who holds that copyright and seek their permission.

In most cases, I would expect their answer will be either:

(a) No; or
(b) Yes, subject to contract and payment.

If you breach copyright, expect to be on the end of some pretty aggressive legal action once they discover what you've done.

Tthanks for that Rob,

I am not thinking of doing it illegally, I just want to make sure what steps needs to be taken going forward.
