I purchased goods for my Gift shop, made internet transfer payment and received an acknowledgement / receipt of payment from supplier 3 days later.

7 months followed before hearing from the supplier who said sorry but they made a mistake and, in fact, did not receive any payment from me. I asked the bank to track the payment - but after 7 months the account has since been closed and privacy laws prevent them from giving me any information re that closed account.

The supplier wants payment. However, not informing me for 7 months has not enabled me to track the payment in a timely manner. They do not wish to negotiate.

Where do I stand under Australian Consumer Law?

I think you can safely file this under "Your problem, not mine". If they've acknowledged payment was received and you have an e-mail or anything in writing of that acknowledgement, then they're going to have a hard time arguing they didn't receive the payment.
