My sister and I are the joint beneficiaries of our Aunt's deceased estate. She had a large share portfolio. We have been told if we want to keep any of the shares, we would have to transfer them to joint names. As this would not be practical, we assume the only solution is to sell them and divide the cash.

As there are quite a few 'blue chip' I would prefer it if we could keep some, but transferred into our individual names.

Any help?

Not always and not automatically.
Who says so?
