Hi Gregg,

This is taken from the thread: Replace Timing Chains after Car Warranty Expiry:

"In 2011, the Trade Practices Act 1987 was replaced by the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth). This is accompanied by the Australian Consumer Law ("ACL"), found in Schedule 2 of the Competition and Consumer Act. Both came into effect on 1 January 2011."
The ACL is not retrospective and goods/services bought before 2011 will be governed by the Trade Practices Act. See: ACCC products and services before 2011.

I agree with Sarah J's comments

Worth also noting that certain provisions which were introduced as amendments to the ACL would come into effect after 1 January 2011, for example the warranty against defects provisions (section 102, ACL) which came into effect 1 January 2012
