Patent - Do I Need Foreign Filing Permission?

Hi,

I am looking to file a patent overseas and want to know if I need to get foreign filing permission from Australian patent office before I start the application there? I am an Australian citizen and am planning to launch website overseas in coming months for which I want to patent a process.

Yes, I am in Australia but I am launching the website in India.

Foreign Filing Permission is an artifact of Indian IP law.
I do not know of any comparable law in Australia.

I agree with Tim, you don't need the approval of IP Australia (or even a patent application in Australia) to start filing applications overseas.
