I have signed a contract to purchase land in an estate that is being developed.

The contract date has already passed for the land to go to title as they have taken so long and made excuses for delays. I went to the solicitor in the hope I could get my money back, however, they told me that I had agreed to a contract extension.

She rang to inform me that the land would not go to title until the 27th of Jan and that I had to acknowledge that or give up my land. She did not mention that it was a contract extension. I have not signed anything.

Is she allowed to hold that as a contract under contract law?

I'm no property law expert but I would have thought that the requirement for contracts for the disposal of land must be in writing would require that any amendment or alteration of such a contract would also need to be in writing and signed.

I am interested to hear what others have to say.
