I received traffic infringements for 1 x unregistered vehicle & 1 x unregistered vehicle over 31 days. The car was not mine and I was using it solely to assist my friends mother with some odd jobs.

The infringements have been passed to SPER and both notices have incorrect licence details on them. In addition to that the licence details do not match and one licence number is not even a valid licence number.

I have started a dispute process but wanting feedback on whether I could potentially have the infringements dismissed/if I should have the details corrected or just pay it and forget about the process.

It might help to clarify a couple of things here:

1 "1 x unregistered vehicle & 1 x unregistered vehicle over 31 days" - were these incurred at the same time in relation to the same event? If so, that sounds like duplicity to me in which case one of them should be withdrawn.

2. "both notices have incorrect licence details on them. In addition to that the licence details do not match and one licence number is not even a valid licence number" - are we talking about "drivers licence numbers" or "vehicle registration numbers" here? The reason I ask is that anyone can jump online and check if a rego number is valid, but I'm not aware of any way to do that for licence numbers.

You were driving an unregistered car.... you're problem
I agree with Scruff, 2 fines for the same offence? I'd be working on challenging that one.

Licence number incorrect? administrative error - obviously the address and name on the licence was taken down correctly because you have recieved the fines. So nope not gonna get off on a technicality.

Sorry my mistake- to clarify I was referring to registration plate on each infringement was incorrect

Thanks. I think it’s probably best to pay and let it be. Rego is incorrect on both fines but seems the fines are correct. Over 31 days is because CTP had expired after 30 days

so you take it to court. What will the judge ask?
I'm guessing one question
1. were you driving an unregistered car?
The answer is yes - so lets not waste magistrates time.

Traffic infringements & the like normally fall under strict liability, meaning that fault & intent don't have to be established, that said, you've got me interested.. LOL..

So the car was borrowed was it?
I assume you did not knowingly drive an unregistered car?.... so I further assume the owner didn't mention anything about the car being not registered?
Do you still have rego labels that must be displayed on vehicles in Qld?....
How were you booked?... were you pulled over & booked?...If so, what did the officer say when you told him it wasn't your vehicle & you assumed it was registered?.... If the vehicle was snapped by detection cameras the registered owner would have received the fine, which means they have signed a stat dec naming you as the driver, is that what happened?

No rego stickers in Queensland anymore. You can look it up on the Transport Department’s website, it I don’t know how common that knowledge is.
