Hi There,
I have been charged with 2 common assault charges, common assault domestic violence.

My wife exaggerated while giving the recording to the police in DVAC and said many things which I have not committed and now she is regretting as she is of the mind that they give warning to me and leave it. Police charged me with common assault charges. Now my wife will hopefully speak the truth during the hearing in the court. So I slap her twice on consecutive days and said few abusive words which I am regretting now. All the action which I did were a reaction to her actions.

I am doing below things to make sure that judge may consider in his decision.
1- Anger Management course
2- Marriage Counselling
3- Character References
4- Apology Letter
5- Following the AVO

Apart from this, my Permanent Residency application will get impacted and even my job and career.

I need to know what will happen during the hearing day, what is the worst judgment can a judge take on the hearing day? Can it impact my wife also?

I encourage you enrolled in a men’s behaviour change program like “facing up” and ensure you follow through to all group therapy sessions to ensure you gain insights into your actions you did on your wife.

To get bruises = DV

The longer you avoid accountability the harder they may act on you. Failure to agree you’ve done wrong do not consent/ contest it call 1800 Father.

Thanks a lot for your reply, Do you have any idea where i can do this program in Sydney apart from baptist care as it is very far away from my place.

I’d Contact relationships Australia, they will guide you in the right direction.

I am aware of baptist care, catholic care you could call men’s line they would be able to assist you with same.

If you have children together i encourage very strongly to look into also (relationships Australia and or interrelate for education/ course on the trauma effects watching behaviours of family violence have on your children now and into the future. Mimicking ADHD behaviours in children is also a common sign.

You need to show your commitment to gain insights into your behaviours for behaviour change. It will only happen when group DV counselling occurs. However if you enrolled in the above & on the mentioned date showed your committed to self improvement + love your partner enough you wish to allow her to feel safe it’ Only going to benefit your relationship.

However if you believe your not guilty or no more guilty then your partner again do not conse

Thanks again for your guidance Hanna.

We have no children aaa if now. I will check with relationship Australia for the same and enrol myself before 7th of May and let the magistrate know about it. In my case, it was a reaction to the actions of my wife. But the lawyer is saying to plead guilty for 1 instance rather than 2.

One more doubt I have, if in case I got conviction then it will impact me and my wife permanent residency. Will consider this.

Also if my wife changes her statement in court and tells the truth what has led to this then what will be consequences to my wife. Will she be charged for telling lie in DVAC?
