Hi! was wondering if you'd be able to provide some insight. If a verbal contract was agreed to, to have some renovations done in my home and both parties provided consent to the job. However upon completion the job cost more than what was given in the rough verbal estimation and the contractor failed to send a promised invoice for the job before commencing. Is this a valid contract and do I have to pay the extra money?

You have reasonable grounds for paying the agreed amount. The other party may however have given a conditional quote depending on what was found out after the job started.

Recommend you sit down with the contractor and get him to justify the increase and take it from there.
