Hi all,

My wife bought a used BMW recently. It was 5 years old, with 50,000k's on it. The BMW warranty is 3 years/150K. It was purchased from an LMCT 6 months ago, so both the manufacturers and statutory warranties have expired. Yesterday the engine suffered a terminal failure (timing chain failure). Would I likely have any recourse to compensation from either the dealer or the manufacturer under the ACL? I've since found that in other countries BMW extended the warranty on the same model car for the same problem to 7 years, and that they released a technical service bulletin last year covering this particular fault. (What makes this even more annoying is that a BMW dealer was asked to investigate the noise a month after purchase, and claimed there was no problem. The chain is supposed to last the life of the engine). Where should I start?? Any advice or thoughts appreciated!

thanks
