Hi, I am considering starting up a mobile device repair business (e.g. mobile phone) and I am just curious to whether I legally need any certifications or license (e.g. business licensing authority) to start up the business?

No, you do not need any certifications or license.

You do need an ABN.

Hi Cohe,

Have a look at the Australian Government website on starting a small business: Starting a business - How to start a business | business.gov.au The business.gov.au website is very comprehensive.

It's a good idea to read as much as you can about not only starting a business, but the laws that protect consumers (such as the Australian Consumer Law) as well. You could also go into other device repair stores and ask repair technicians there what qualifications and certifications they have to give you a good idea of what customers look for and what may be generally accepted in your field.
