We recently had settlement on some land in Brisbane & the solicitor office told us, in writing, the transfer stamp duty would be $7000. However, on the morning of settlement the solicitor's office told us that was wrong and it was $14000. We had to find that extra money for settlement. Is there anything we can do about this discrepancy?

At the end of the day, you still owe the same amount of stamp duty which must be paid. The fact that the solicitor told you the wrong thing, cannot be actioned unless it caused you to suffer some sort of loss, that you would not have suffered had you known the correct amount of stamp duty.
