I was caught on CCTV shoplifting mascara . I didn't get caught when I took it. Two weeks later I went back to the same shop and the shop assistant said I was banned from the shop as they had footage of me taking the mascara.
They didn't ask for my name or anything they just asked me to leave and said I am banned .Can the shop press charges on me by getting my registration details ( I parked next to the shop) ?

The police can certainly find out who you are using the rego.
The shop itself can't.

I suggest two things

1. Stay away from the shop, forever.
2. Get medical help for why you're stealing stuff.

I would recommend that you step up and show remorse and appreciation towards the store for not going to the police with the video surveillance if in fact it clearly identifies you as evidence, by some gesture of redemption. It will be in your favour to show such an act in the event that they change their mind and go to the police. The judge may be lenient if you showed. You may have a valid defence however on the facts I cannot infer or speculate further....good luck

Whereas I suggest you "take the lucky escape",
not draw further attention to yourself,
and move on with your life.
