we had our engine replaced 9 weeks ago we paid the final bill and got our car back. the Mechanic is now messaging us saying be forgot to charge us for some part that we didnt know he was going to replace.(no communication regarding these parts).
first message was asking us to pay another 2000 then he sends a message saying dont worry he will cover it. then sending another message asking us what is happening with the 2000 .
we dont think we should pay it based on we didnt know he was going to change them and its now 9 weeks after we payed the final bill.

Partly depends on what was said prior to the work commencing. A genuine mistake is able to be 'fixed' but needs to be within the scope of agreed works.

A bit more detail is needed.

the parts he is saying he changed were never mentioned to us in any of the communication we have had with him. $2000 is alot of money to find 9 weeks latter after already paying $10000 for the work he did. dont get me wrong the work he did was great. and if he had of mentioned it we would have had a record of it. we asked for a final total and paid the total before we got the car back

Tough call. Only a 20% variation.

Could go either way if it went to court.
