My flat burnt down last year and my laptop was destroyed. I was renting it and I had signed a cover for loss from fire or theft, they discontinued my payments so I didn't have to pay for it.

    I eventually purchased another laptop.

I also lost my 42in tv that I had just finished paying for, eventually I got another tv through the same company. When I moved from one state to another, for unknown reasons, the removalists kept my new 42in tv, I had had for nearly 6 mths.

I rang the company to be told it wasn't covered because there was no actual "break-in" to take it!!!!! I went to the police and was told it's a civil matter and they couldn't help me. It will be paid for in 2017...I'm on a disability support pension and that monthly payment could be used elsewhere.

I have had to buy a small second hand tv for $100.

Surely this "thief" shouldn't be able to get away with this? Good thing is, whoever has it now, is missing the 2 remote controls and the 2 3D glasses that go with it.

I have insurance through the agency I'm renting from. It covers fire and theft, but they say it wasn't "theft" because there was no break in...

But you said it covered you for both fire and theft. If your flat burnt down, then you have fire, there doesn't need to be theft as well.

For the allegedly stolen TV, you said that the removalists confirmed that someone stole it or are they actually just holding on to it? If they're just holding on to it, send them a letter of demand for return of your TV or the monetary value of the TV. If they 'lost' it, I would be reading the terms of your removalist contract very carefully about what they are and aren't responsible for and if they're obliged to reimburse.

It might also be worth making a complaint, and letting the removalists know that you'll be making a complaint to Fair Trading QLD.

they kept it and were harassing me. I was getting about 20 missed calls/texts/fb messages/ and he even tried to friend my family, to find out where I was....when I discovered the tv was missing I sent him a text saying "wheres my f**&^ing tv"?...that was 2 months ago, haven't heard a thing from him since....
he quoted me $120 p/sq mt and I didn't even have that much, we stopped on the way and picked up another houseful of furniture, so it had 2 houses in it...I gave him $1500 and as there was never an amount talked about I didn't think I would owe much more, after he had left my stuff in lockup, I got a mess from his wife saying I owed another $1500...I gave them $200 before I found out about my tv,haven't paid them a cent since, that's :(
