Police Stop Me Walking to Work - What Are My Rights?

My housemate was stopped by the cops 9 times in a month. The last time on Friday past, they told him to get in the car they had to go to the cop shop to update his details. he hasn't done anything wrong, they know obviously who he is as I recon they have stopped him at least once a fortnight for the last 6 years, NO BULL......
Anyway, if it was me I would not have gone and there would have been a huge blowup. What are your rights, I THOUGHT WE WERE IN AUSTRALIA NOT THE SOVIET UNION.

Which state or territory are you in? My understanding is that police powers and criminal law varies slightly depending on the state.

And does he have a previous offence that requires him to report to the police on a regular basis?
