Hello,

Would like some guidance as to roughly what I could expect from property settlement.
Married 29 years 5 children one 13 years still at home.Have been stay at home mother for past 23 years .
Husband has received in that time a total of approx. $700,000 from his parents in gifts and inheritances.
Own home in joint names. Also could I expect extra due to the fact there has been large portion of money
wasted on his part on adult activities i.e. strip clubs and dating sites.

Starting point would be

(Net assets - $700k) x 50%

Your share may increase if:
  • inheritances/gifts were a long time ago,
  • you have primary care of 13 year old,
  • your ability to earn income is limited,
  • you are ill,
  • wasting money is significant,
  • you get a good judge.
There may be other unique factors that change the %.
