I have a good opportunity at a mine in WA and they require a National police clearance. I got in trouble a few years ago and got a record and it’s behind me now (apart from the record of course)

Does police clearance mean you have to be completely clear? I know from a mine that I worked at in qld that there inclusion policy included not excluding people with a record unless it directly related to the roles (needing clearance for explosives for that role or theft if you were a money person for example)

I haven’t yet got far enough into a job prospect that they have asked for a clearance certificate. Should I just miss jobs that require clearance goodbye or hope to explain my position?

thanks

Aside from the psychological stress of applying for work, I'd go with hoping to explaining your position.

Little to lose, potentially job to gain.
