HI,

I have a traffic infringement notice to appear on the following charges:.

Drive unregistered
Drive uninsured
Attach false licence plates
Failure to update vehicle details -ownership, colour change
Failure to update my own address details

What are the maximum penalties under Traffic Law?

Can the judge take my drivers licence or demerit points or impose jail time for these particular offences.

Any clarification would be appreciated.

The car was my friend's. I had no knowledge of rego issues and I wasn't pulled over. I was "sighted" the week prior.

Thank you.

Maximum fine for failing to update ownership details is $1,500.00 however is usually only be minimal, such as $100.00 or $200.00.
Driving uninsured can attract a fine of $8000 and I believe driving unregistered is usually about an $800 fine.
Your vehicle can also be impounded for the two aforementioned offences

I don't know what 'sighted' means.

I don't know how the authorities would know to send the infringements to you? Not unless your 'friend' told authorities he sold/gave the car to you?
