We separate last week I earn 100k she earns 30ish, kids are all adults living with father in house. She moved out, is intending to rent and has indicated she is entitled to half my wage after bills, is this correct? Am I legally required to pay maintenance during the period in which we are separated.

No - not until a court makes an order for you to pay... And I reckon it is unlikely that a court would make such an order.

I agree... She doe's not have care or control of a child & she is employed... Unless there is some other adequate reason I don't believe she would be successful in being granted periodic SM even if she applied to court..
