My son's father is currently serving a life sentence alongside his father. They have recently appealed their conviction and I’m fearful that if they get released they will try and take my son from me. My son doesn’t remember his father and never asks about him.

My son's father's family is very unpredictable and I fear for us on a daily basis. Just wondering how I would go about protecting my son and myself against his family under Family Law. I was also wondering how I would go about changing my son's last name?

Go to your local community legal centre and seek advice from them. You need to provide them with more detail than you should post here.

You have a reasonable chance for an intervention order against the son's father, but get help.
