My wife's name is the only one on the title to our house as she bought the land before we met. I want to add my name on to it.

From reading a little on the net about this, I think I can submit forms and a statutory declaration to get this done and not pay stamp duty. Please correct me if I'm not entirely accurate. There is no mortgage on the property.

Do I need to get a valuation to submit the forms?

Are there any other things to consider or consequences to adding my name to the title?

Thanks

Why bother? These days the family court doesn't care whose name is on what property. They look behind the ownership to work out what is fair and reasonable.

She is not obliged to add you
just because you want her to.

You have no right to be added
just because you are married to her.

The first thing you need is her consent.
She is not obliged, legally, or culturally, or as a product of religion,
to agree.

OK maybe I didn't put enough info in my first post. We are happily married and she wants to do this also.

Can I kindly refer you to my original question?

Thanks

My answer to your original question is
that she, not you, goes to see a lawyer
by herself, of her choosing,
who will attend to it without any great drama or excessive expense.
