I am an Australian. I married a Canadian citizen in Canada in 2009. I could never stay there
for any great length of time as he was deceitful in the fact that he had to go bankrupt.
Apparently this was the 2nd time he has had to go bankrupt. Only a spouse in Canada can
sponsor you, thus making it impossible for me. Is this marriage valid?
Could you please advice me what to do as I want a divorce. I have asked him to send marriage
cert to me and he wont. Many thanks for any advice.

Many thanks

If you have a valid Canadian marriage it is valid here.

Yes, you can get a divorce here though you firstly need to prove you have a marriage by applying to the Canadian equivalent of Births, Deaths and Marriages.

And you'll need to have been separated for at least 12 months. Suspect you are OK on this requirement.
