I was walking and I fell on a nail in high school. The nail was sticking out of the ground. I went to the hospital and I had to get stitches. I still have a scar on my knee and numbness. It has affected my teenage years due to the fact that I was embarrassed to wear skirts in public.

My parents knew very little English and did not know Australian laws and that is why we never looked for any compensation. It has been around 12 years and I have suffered a lot, and I am just wondering if it's not too late to have someone accountable for what happened to me.

Sounds very much like a homework question. See Limitations of Actions Act 1958 s 27D.
