Hi there,

Client is 4 months already in prison, various charges mainly driving offences & drugs.

A paid lawyer had not once visited to consult with the prisoner and the lawyer at times has not turned up to court or informed the prisoner of upcoming court appearances.

My question is, what should the expected lawyer behaviour be with regards to the paid lawyer's client?

Thanks in advance :)

A direct answer to your question: A lawyer should, as a starting point, abide by their ethical duties.

A lawyer's fundamental ethical duties include to act in the best interests of the client, be honest and courteous in all dealings in the course of legal practice, deliver legal services competently, diligently and as promptly as reasonably possible, avoid compromise to their integrity and professional independence and to comply with the law.

Alternative Question: Perhaps ask yourself if you're happy with the services you're paying for.
