I'm due to have a baby in 2 months , what are the pros and cons of having the father named on the birth certificate. I want to be a single mother with full responsibility as the father is violent and has no interest in the baby . Is it ok to have one parent named

You’ll have trouble getting child support if dad isn’t named on the birth certificate, which means you’ll also have trouble getting family tax benefit, and even if dad isn’t named on the birth certificate, the child still has a right to know, spend time and communicate with him to the maximum extent that is consistent with the child’s best interests, so dad will be able to pursue that right on behalf of the child through court if he so chooses.

If dad is on birth certificate you will need his signature for other stuff, specifically a passport for the child.

Not on birth certificate - No child support. But you will in all likelihood be able to access other govt assistance like single parent payment.
