I was married in the Cook Islands over 13 years ago - we've been separated for over 10 years now. Unfortunately our marriage certificate was last many years ago and I've been unsuccessful in obtaining a copy from the Cook Islands Justice Department. I've obtained a copy from Births, Deaths & Marriages however it's been suggested that this copy may not be sufficient to successfully apply for divorce. Can anyone provide a little insight into this?

Suggest asking the Federal Circuit Court. I'd have thought the extract/copy you have would be sufficient but I know nothing of the way the Cook Is bureaucracy functions and the difference between a copy from the Justice Dept and BDM.

If your copy by itself is not sufficient, then attach it to an affidavit explaining the circumstances and what you have attempted to do to obtain the 'correct copy'.
