Depends... What do you want to achieve. If it is just about getting an agreement about kids and things are reasonably amicable then a mob like Relationships Australia can help... Nice easy, cheap... But often long waiting lists.
If mediation involves separation of assets then solicitors are gonna need to get involved (kinda) so for any asset division to be enforcable both parties need to have had independent legal advice. (solicitors).

If things are amicable and involve assets, sort it out yourselves, make a list of things you agree upon. Go see a solicitor and ask solicitor to write to the ex asking if he/she agrees. The ex can get a solicitor to write back and you can get consent orders sorted... That can be cheaper than mediatio with solicitors because the solicitors are just writing a few letters - better than paying them for a whole day to sit and discuss... But that will be necessary if you guys can't come up with an agreement on your own
