If I have been in a relationship with someone and contributing money to house and caring for children. Is there a time limit for a de facto relationship before any claim can be made?

De facto relationships are ordinarily considered de facto when the relationship is registered with Births, Deaths and Marriages, or the couple share a child together, or they've been living together for two years.

The shorter a relationship is, however, the more likely the court is to simply order that each party retain the assets they had at commencing the relationship, so it's not necessarily a case of being in a relationship for two years and then being entitled to, or losing, half the house that you or the other owned before you met.

    Hope this helps.

Oh, and you have two years following the end of a de facto relationship to commence proceedings for a property settlement through court.

My situation is I was there when he purchased house and moved in. I spent 4 nights a week there until mid December when I left my rental property and moved in
From the beginning I looked after house and his children up to four days per fortnight. Helped with renovation and establishing gardens I would also purchase food for weekend his kids were there
When I moved in permanently I paid 200 per fortnight plus 50% bills supplied internet paid 1/2 his food shop but would have to go contribute more as the food was mainly his work lunches dog food and his special soy milk.
When kids there for total of 48 hours a fortnight from jan I would care for them why he went bike riding or slept during day fo 60%
People are saying I should pursue him for settlement
    I don't think I have any rights

So when did you move in permanently? December 2013 or
    December 2014?
