Hi, I intend to open an online business legal document automation website like lawlive.com.au .

I intend to find a lawyer to pay copyright fee for his/her legal document templates and legal updates to sell service of document automation. However, I am not quite sure about the copyright fees charged by lawyer for legal document templates and legal updates.

Please advise me about this. If you need me to send a private message, please also advise me.

Thank you very much for your considerations.

Hopefully you've done your research into the industry. There are a few providers already out there, and some of them are integrated with practice management software which is a bonus.

Next, you're going to want a panel of lawyers. No one covers everything, and even if they could they're unlikely to be specialised enough to have high level precedents that you'd want to market.

I also think you'd find that any lawyer is unlikely to just sell you their precedents. More likely is that they would agree to licence you the use of them for an ongoing fee; probably including a percentage of what you get for selling them on.

Lastly, to answer your question, it will depend on what you want and how specialised it is. Generic stuff like conveyancing letters will be a lot different from, say, a put and call option agreement.

Thank you Rob Legat very much for your advice to me in regard to information about charges by lawyer for legal templates.

In terms of ongoing fee that lawyer will charge on the basis of percentage of what I get for selling the templates on, what percentage of the sale price does the lawyer usually charge for ongoing fee?

On that I have no idea, but I would imagine it will likely be dependent on the narure of the document(s).
