Greetings to LawAnswers and thanks for your service!
I'm a Qld resident with Qld driver licence. Just bought a car in WA registered in WA until Feb 2018.
Completed WA transfer of ownership papers with seller (not yet dated and not lodged) and have receipt for sale of vehicle. Drove car to my Qld home where it is now garaged.
I'd like to use the car in Qld (or wherever) until the WA rego is nearly expired before formally changing ownership with both WA and Qld authorities.
Is there a legislated penalty for failing to change rego in a certain time, or could I use the vehicle with WA rego until Feb 2018 without being penalised when Qld rego is obtained?
Thank you!
Wilf

I think you have 3 months to change the rego if you became a resident of the state, as for the rego, if you transfer the rego, you will get back the pro-rate of the previous states rego, it may not be much, but better than nothing,
