Hello,

I have recently rented a car and would like to ask for advice regarding the minimum rental period as the rental company and I have different interpretations of what the contract stipulates in this regard.

I will quote the relevant contract excerpts below:

"The Rental Agreement:
(a) is a fixed term of 28 days which is automatically renewed for a further 28 day term at the expiration of each term;...."
(b) may be terminated by either party after giving a minimum of 14 days' notice."

"The Rental Agreement will terminate at the end of the 14 day notice period....."

My understanding is that the car can be returned after 28 days if within this period a notice of min. 14 days was given. The company says that the notice period is to be added to the min. rental period, so that the total min. rental period is 42 days.

Who is right?

Cheers,
Julia

I would suggest on a bare reading of the wording provided that if you give at least 14 days notice, then it ends at the end of the 28 day period.
