Hi,

I am in Queensland and I am aware that a voice recording can secretly be done without the other party's consent. In this instance, a call was recorded on speakerphone. This call was to a peak industry - regulatory body in the leisure industry. I have typed out a transcript of the phone call, and wondering am I able to share that transcript publicly?

The transcript is typed out word for word per se, per the call. The actual call recording wouldn't be published, only the transcript OF that call.

Thanks!

Under the Invasion of Privacy Act 1971 (Qld), the use of a statement prepared from a private conversation is prohibited unless:
- the other party consents;
- publication is part of court proceedings;
- it's within the "public interest" (but a lot of care and professional advice should be used before doing so); or
- it's done by an appropriate government official.

So, the short answer is: no. If you think there's a 'public interest' angle, you should get some legal advice before doing so.
