I turned 14 this year and she turned 18. We don’t live in the same country, it’s long distance. I’m Australian and she’s originally from England. We’re planning on meeting this year. We’re both females and are confused at the legal age of consent for “sex”. Do they even class lesbian sex as actual sex? Will my partner get in any legal trouble for only dating if I’m 14 and she’s 18?

Without going into all the intricacies, it is illegal. Under the age of 16 you cannot legally consent to sexual activity and it could be considered statutory ‘r**e’. If reported, she could be in a lot of trouble, particularly if the case were made that she’d travelled to Australia for that purpose.

That being said, simply ‘dating’ is not illegal. You just need to be careful as to what activities you get up to.

And legal age would be when I turn 16, right?

Yes, the legal age of consent to sexual relations in Queensland is 16.

As I said in my original reply, simply 'dating' is not illegal. There is a range of things beyond 'sex' which could also be illegal. For example:

- taking or possessing photos or video of a sexual nature could breach child pornography laws; and
- 'indecent treatment' of children under 16 is also an offence. What is 'indecent' is not defined by the law, but generally means anything that could be considered as "deviating from conduct which is acceptable by the community standard".

Just remember, it's not necessarily up to you as to what is indecent. When you're in public, it could be the police. If you're in private, it would be your parent or guardian.

literally anything could be counted as “indecent” I don’t see how that’s aloud
