Hey people,

I don't know if I'm even allowed to be asking such a question but I just want some opinions and are doing research.

Which firm is the better choice regarding dealing with Family/Property Lawyers?

I'm probably over-thinking things but some say you have to be careful with who you choose, and the other party is with a dodgy firm who are skewing facts and manipulating the truth and getting creative.

I want to ensure I'm armed with the better equipped mob who can ensure I don't lose what's rightfully mine over battling a shifty firm.

Anybody have any experience and or heard of any horror or success stories?

Additional Question: Has anybody ever heard of 'rate setters' and are familiar with how they operate?

Top tier = top rates, not necessarily top quality.

We have a very good team that deals with family law matters with great backup from experienced barristers. They are used to deal with other parties who do not always play strictly by the rules.

Additional Question: Has anybody ever heard of 'rate setters' and are familiar with how they operate?

In what context? Loans? Pay rates? Other?

Any info really.

They're the only two property/family law firms that are willing to help me (nobody else in Victoria wanted to do so). I just want to make sure I don't end up having another Victoria Legal Aid horror story.

I've heard mixed stories and I got too much on the line this time. I just need to make sure I make the right choice.

One firm seems to know what they're doing whilst the other seems like they're just trying to make me a sales pitch and milk me for as much as they can.

Thing is, I know my stuff, I've got everything ready. I just need one of the firms to come with me to court. I don't really need their help with affidavits and draft letters...

Well, that would probably give you your answer right there. Your gut reaction is not usually wrong.

I was wrong...

Although Shine like a sales pitch...

Oxford... Well I just found out that they're extremely unprofessional and mislead you. Their payment options, radio advertisements and the fake stories of fake clients that talk them up- well, my experience just showed me that that's not the case. They cancelled an appointment and never rescheduled. I waited almost a week and called them back like they forgot. Then, days before my court date, they send me an email that I need to pay something VERY different than previously discussed and has now left me with 1 day to file something and no legal help for my case.
